Medical assistants work side-by-side with doctors, nurses and others on the healthcare team, treating patients from newborns to senior citizens. They demonstrate a blend of varied skills including administrative, technical, communication and interpersonal abilities

Medical Assistance Program

The Medical Assistant Program is designed to expose the student to many aspects of a doctor’s office, a medical laboratory or other health facility. The student will learn basic Anatomy and Physiology along with the medical terminology associated with the body systems. He or she will also learn various laboratory and clinical skills including how to take blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, drawing blood and performing EKG’s. The student will also become familiar with injections, sterilization and aseptic techniques, First Aid and CPR. All the above is combined with basic office procedures and practices, general medical law, ethics and communications.

Medical Assistants help physicians to examine and treat patients and perform varied administrative tasks in the office. MA’s also obtain employment in labs and hospitals where the duties may be more specific. The expected outcome for the program is to provide the graduate with the ability to obtain an entry-level position as a Medical Assistant, Medical Office Assistant, Medical Laboratory Assistant, ECG Technician, Phlebotomist or Hospital Assistant.
