Vocational Nursing Program

Oxford Academy Vocational Nursing will help you achieve your goals to become a nurse and work as an important member of the professional health care team. At Oxford Academy we will teach you to perform safe, compassionate and patient centered care in a pre-licensure 12-month program.

What Vocational Nurses do.

Licensed Vocational Nurses work under appropriate supervision while providing safe patient care, administering medications, and perform focused patient assessments in health care settings.

Vocational Nursing Program

The Oxford Academy Vocational Nursing Program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) and is conducted on campus in a face-to-face classroom and various clinical settings. The program is offered during a 12-month period consisting of three semesters of vocational and fundamental nursing courses. These courses will focus on professional development and ethical and legal nursing practice of patient-centered care. New classes filled with diverse academically strong students will begin annually in January and be completed during December.

Classes will be held Monday through Thursday which is based on a full-time 40-hour week with required class and clinical attendance. We are conveniently located at 2727 NW Loop 410 Suite 104, San Antonio, Texas 78230. 

Students who successfully graduate from Oxford Academy with a Vocational Nurse diploma will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination / Vocational Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Oxford Academy graduates are well prepared to pass the NCLEX-PN and will be entitled to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).

Admission Requirments

  • Applicants must be 17 years of age 
  • Official photo ID, driver’s license or passport
  • Social security card, or proof of citizenship status
  • Personal health insurance proof, Physical exam, immunization
  • MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) – completed series of 2 vaccines, Varicella (chickenpox) – 2 doses, Hepatitis B -complete series of 3 vaccines and CPR
  • Immunizations continued, Negative Tuberculosis/PPD test or Chest Xray for TB 60 days prior to Day 1 of program start date.
    • Covid vaccine – recommended but not required
  • Background Check
  • Personal Essay: your original essay of 200-300 words describing your personal aspirations to become a nurse
  • Entrance exam, contact Oxford Academy for an appointment to take the Essential Academic Skills – ATI-TEAS (PN) Practical nursing exam.
